At Easterseals of Northeast Ohio, we believe employment is a key to independence, empowerment, and inclusion. Our Vocational Services for individuals who are Deaf, DeafBlind, or hard of hearing are designed to help people reach their career goals through accessible, culturally responsive support.
All services are delivered by staff who are fluent in American Sign Language (ASL) and trained in Deaf culture, ensuring communication is effective and respectful every step of the way.
Our Vocational Services Include:
1. Career Counseling & Goal Setting
We work with individuals to explore interests, identify strengths, and develop customized employment plans. Whether you're entering the workforce for the first time or returning after a gap, we’ll help you find the right path.
2. Job Readiness & Pre-Employment Training
We offer training in:
- Resume building and job applications
- Interview preparation with mock interviews and role play
- Soft skills like time management, communication, and workplace etiquette
- Self-advocacy and requesting accommodations
3. Job Placement & Coaching
Our employment specialists connect participants with inclusive employers and provide:
- Help finding and applying to jobs
- On-site or virtual job coaching
- Assistance navigating workplace challenges
- Follow-up support to promote job retention and advancement
4. Workplace Accommodations & Communication Support
We provide guidance on:
- Requesting ASL interpreters or captioning
- Using assistive technology or visual alerts
- Educating employers on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
5. Collaboration with Vocational Rehabilitation (VR)
We partner with state VR agencies to coordinate services and support long-term employment success.
