American Sign Language Classes

Easterseals of Northeast Ohio offers American Sign Language (ASL) classes for individuals, families, professionals, and community members who want to learn one of the most widely used visual languages in the United States. Whether you're a beginner or looking to improve your fluency, our American Sign Language (ASL) classes provide a welcoming and engaging environment for learners of all levels.

What to Expect:

• Beginner to Advanced Levels
  Classes are offered in multiple levels, from ASL 1 (basic vocabulary and grammar) to advanced conversation and cultural immersion.
• Taught by Deaf Instructors
  Our classes are led by native American Sign Language (ASL) users and Deaf instructors, offering authentic language learning and providing deep insights into Deaf culture and community.
• Interactive, Immersive Learning
  Lessons include hands-on activities, visual learning tools, role-playing, and group practice to build both receptive and expressive skills.
• Cultural Competency
  In addition to language, students learn about Deaf history, etiquette, and cultural values, promoting respectful and effective communication.
• Classes for Parents of Deaf Children are Available
  We offer free classes for parents and immediate family members of Deaf children.

Class Format:
Classes typically run for 1.5 hours and meet once a week for a total of 12 weeks. Classes are held in person at 299 Edwards Street in Youngstown.

Who Can Enroll:
Anyone 12 years old or older.

Cost to Enroll:
Classes range from $99 to $135, not including the ASL book and DVD.
