SUMMARY:
Easterseals of Northeast Ohio is seeking an energetic and compassionate Aide to work in our Adult Day Care to help to make a difference in our clients' lives. The position is per diem and may work up to 19 hours per week as needed. No weekends or holidays are required.
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position provides hands-on, direct care and personal assistance to clients in the Adult Day Care Program, promoting their independence, dignity, safety, and overall well-being. The Adult Day Care Aide works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team to ensure clients’ daily care needs are met.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide direct care and supervision to clients in accordance with individualized care plans and organizational policies.
- Assist clients with activities of daily living (ADLs), including toileting, personal hygiene, grooming, dressing, eating, and mobility, while preserving participant dignity and independence.
- Assist clients with safe transfers, ambulation, and the use of mobility equipment following proper body mechanics and safety procedures.
- Monitor participants throughout the day for changes in physical, emotional, or cognitive condition and promptly report concerns to the nurse or supervisor.
- Assist with meal service, including meal setup, feeding assistance when necessary, hydration, and monitoring dietary restrictions.
- Support Activity Aides during activities by assisting clients with participation, providing redirection, and giving verbal and physical cues to ensure a high level of client engagement.
- Escort clients to and from transportation, restrooms, meals, activities, and other areas of the facility while ensuring their safety.
- Assist in the supervision of community outings while ensuring client safety and compliance with agency policies.
- Build positive, respectful relationships with participants by providing compassionate, person-centered care and encouraging independence whenever possible.
- Provide supervision and redirection to participants as needed to promote safety and appropriate social interactions.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized environment by following infection control procedures and assisting with housekeeping tasks within participant areas.
- Maintain updated knowledge of regulatory standards as they relate to Ohio Medicaid, Ohio Department of Aging, and Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities and other regulatory bodies as they apply to all home and community-based services.
- Adhere to the standards of conduct, established Code of Ethics, confidentiality, privacy, and security of protected health information, and all policies and procedures of Easterseals
- Attend mandatory staff meetings, in-service training, and competency sessions as required for the position.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:

- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Successful completion of a vocational program in the health or human service field, State-Tested Nursing Assistant, or Certified Nurse Aide certification is preferred.
- A minimum of two years experience providing personal care.
- Must be able to meet agency requirements for criminal background checks, which meets the requirements for Direct Care personnel within the state of Ohio.
- Drug and Alcohol testing per company policy and safety program.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Demonstrate active listening and adjust communication techniques to meet the client’s cognitive, hearing, vision or language needs.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships with older adults.
- Patience, empathy, and the ability to respond calmly to challenging behaviors associated with dementia or other cognitive impairments.
- Strong observation skills to recognize changes in the client’s physical, emotional, or cognitive status and report concerns promptly.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA requirements.
- Displays a high level of motivation and a self-imposed standard of excellence.
EQUIPMENT USED/MACHINERY REQUIREMENTS:
- Proficient use of standard office equipment, Microsoft Office applications, applicable software programs, and other technology required to perform assigned duties.
- Food securement devices and coolers.
- Wheelchair and passenger securement/safety devices.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds to assist in the delivery of client care.
- Frequently requires sitting, standing, walking, bending, squatting, kneeling, reaching, and a full range of body motion.
- Potential exposure to blood and body fluids, and communicable diseases.
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt/ $13.75 per hour
Classification: Per diem, up to 19 hours per week as needed
