Building a Legacy
Easterseals of Northeast Ohio traces its roots back to 1951, when the Rotary Club of Youngstown established the Mahoning County Society for Crippled Children to offer therapy and services to children with special needs. In 1965, the organization announced plans for a dedicated Rehabilitation Center, and by 1967, the J. Ford Crandall Rehabilitation Center opened on Edwards Street in Youngstown, expanding its mission to serve adults as well.
Over the decades, Easterseals grew through key partnerships and acquisitions. In 2011, the organization strengthened its programs by incorporating Youngstown Hearing & Speech and Celtic Community Services.
A significant milestone came in October 2024, when the agency expanded into six new counties—Ashtabula, Geauga, Portage, Carroll, Tuscarawas, and Holmes—and officially became Easterseals of Northeast Ohio, serving a nine-county region.
Since 1951, our mission has been unwavering: serving those living with disabilities through outcome-based programs that uplift independence, inclusion, and dignity. Today, as Easterseals of Northeast Ohio, we’re proud to carry forward that legacy—bringing critical services to thousands of children, adults, and families across our growing region.
